GIS & Mapping

 What is GIS?

GIS is an acronym for Geographic Information Systems. GIS allow us to capture, store, manipulate, analyze, and display information in a cartographic manner. This means that the GIS can tie our maps to County database information, and allow Gibson County to employ statistical analysis for the betterment of County taxpayers. Often the terms “Geospatial” and “Geospatial Data” are used to describe the physical location based data that make up the GIS.

Increased efficiency is at the core of what GIS provides Gibson County government on a daily basis. Our location based datasets improve the effectiveness of offices such as the Assessor, Auditor, Clerk, Commissioners, Highway Garage, Sheriff, and Surveyor, PLUS many more!

Supplying the Gibson County taxpayers with accurate, precise, and easily accessible map data increases the transparency of our government in a tangible manner. For more information regarding what data and maps are available for you, please contact the Gibson County GIS Department by email , phone (812.761.2639), or stop by and see within the Surveyor’s Office of the Gibson County Courthouse ( 101 N. Main St., Princeton IN )
