County Surveyor Responsibilities
 
The duties of the County Surveyor are described in Indiana Code 36-2-12.  Some of these duties include:

  • Perpetuates and maintains Section Corners, Militia Donation Corners, Location Corners, Survey Corners as well as Luke Decker Claim corners as originally established within the county
  • Serves as an ex officio member of the County Drainage Board
  • Manages the construction, reconstruction and maintenance of all county-regulated drains for the county drainage board
  • Maintains legal survey record books and other survey plats and data

In addition to the statutory obligations described above, the Gibson County Surveyor's Office is involved in the following areas of county service:

  • Development of Gibson County's GIS
  • Assisting other County Offices (ie Commissioners, Highway Department, Assessor, Auditor, etc.)

Michael Stevenson is a licensed land surveyor in the State of Indiana.  He is the South District Vice-Chairman of the County Surveyor's Association, Chairman of the GIS Policy Committee, and is a past President of the Southwest Chapter of the Indiana Society of Professional Land Surveyors.
